KK vs MS highlights | Karachi Kings Crush Multan Sultans by 87 Runs:PSL 2025
Date: May 1, 2025 Venue: Lahore
The 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) match between Karachi Kings and Multan Sultans turned out to be a one-sided affair, as Karachi Kings defeated Multan Sultans by a huge margin of 87 runs. This match, though originally scheduled in Multan, was shifted to Lahore. Despite some objections from the Sultans, the change in venue would not have made much of a difference, considering how dominant the Kings were on the day.
Karachi Kings’ Strong Batting Performance
Karachi Kings batted first and posted an impressive 204 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. The foundation was laid by James Vince, who played a fantastic unbeaten knock of 65 runs. His calm and classy innings held the Kings’ innings together, especially after they lost three quick wickets in a short span.
The innings began with an aggressive start, thanks to David Warner, who smashed 30 runs off just 13 balls. Although he was dismissed early after a mistimed shot to point, he had already set the momentum. Warner’s fireworks in the opening overs put pressure on the Sultans' bowlers and gave Kings a flying start.
Ubaid Shah, bowling for Multan, did well in that phase, taking two important wickets — Tim Seifert and Omair Yousuf — in quick succession. At that point, it looked like Multan could make a comeback. But that hope faded fast.
After Warner’s dismissal, Vince found a solid partner in Irfan Khan, who added a valuable 40 runs. Together, Vince and Irfan put on a partnership of 78 runs in 56 balls, smoothly guiding the innings through the middle overs and keeping the scoreboard ticking.
Multan’s fielding woes continued in this game. A key moment came when Usama Mir dropped a high catch off Vince at square leg. That dropped catch allowed Vince to complete his half-century, which proved very costly in the end.
In the last few overs, Khushdil Shah came in and played an explosive cameo. He remained not out on 33 off just 13 balls, smashing bowlers all around the ground. He even hit a massive six off the last ball of the innings, bowled by Chris Jordan, taking Kings past 200. The final 14 balls brought a massive 45 runs — a perfect end to a dominant batting performance.
Multan Sultans Collapse Under Pressure
Chasing 205, Multan Sultans had a nightmare of a start. Their captain, Mohammad Rizwan, who is usually the backbone of their batting, was dismissed for a duck in the second over by Abbas Afridi. That early blow shook the team’s confidence.
The next few overs were no better. Usman Khan played a poor shot and gave away his wicket to Vince, while Yasir Khan, who looked promising with 26 runs, was dismissed by Aamer Jamal. By the end of the 6th over, Multan were 53 for 3, which was not bad compared to Kings’ score at that point. But things fell apart very quickly after that.
Only Curtis Campher showed some resistance, hitting a few boundaries before getting out. Once he was gone, it was complete chaos. Multan lost five wickets for just 14 runs, collapsing from 76 for 4 to 90 for 9. It was a stunning collapse that left the team and their fans in disbelief.
The main destroyer was the experienced all-rounder Mohammad Nabi, who picked up 3 wickets for just 14 runs. He bowled with great control and didn’t allow the batsmen to settle. He removed Michael Bracewell and David Willey in two consecutive balls, completely destroying any hope of a comeback.
Khushdil Shah also contributed with the ball, taking the wickets of Iftikhar Ahmed and Kamran Ghulam, leaving Multan with no recognized batsmen at the crease.
Towards the end, Chris Jordan and Ubaid Shah added 27 runs for the final wicket, taking the score past 100 and avoiding the embarrassment of losing by 100+ runs. But the match was long gone by then. Mir Hamza finished things off by taking the final wicket of Ubaid, wrapping up the innings for 117 runs in just 17.3 overs.
Star Performers
James Vince (Karachi Kings) – 65* (not out), the anchor of the innings, stayed till the end.
Khushdil Shah (Karachi Kings) – 33* off 13 balls, and 2 key wickets.
Mohammad Nabi (Karachi Kings) – 3 wickets for 14 runs, changed the game with his spell.
Ubaid Shah (Multan Sultans) – 2 wickets, but expensive with 49 runs in 4 overs.
What Went Wrong for Multan Sultans?
Multan Sultans were never really in the game. Their batting was poor, their fielding sloppy, and their bowling lacked sharpness. Dropping James Vince was a turning point. Poor shot selection and lack of partnerships made their chase impossible.
They came into the match already struggling in the tournament, and this heavy loss has now knocked them out completely. It’s a sad end to their PSL 2025 journey.
What’s Next for Karachi Kings?
With this big win, Karachi Kings look in strong form. Their batting, especially the middle order, is performing well. The bowlers are doing their job, and their team balance looks solid.
This victory will boost their confidence as they move towards the playoffs. With players like Vince, Warner, Nabi, and Khushdil all clicking, Kings are turning into real title contenders.
Final Thoughts
This match was a clear example of two teams in very different forms. Karachi Kings were aggressive, smart, and composed. Multan Sultans, on the other hand, lacked intent, energy, and belief.
It was a day to remember for Karachi and a day to forget for Multan.
