LSG Clinch a Thrilling Win Against RR by Just 2 Runs
In one of the closest encounters of IPL 2025, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) edged past Rajasthan Royals (RR) by just 2 runs in a nail-biting contest held in Jaipur. LSG posted a competitive total of 180/5 in their 20 overs, and despite a strong start from RR, they fell just short, ending at 178/5.
The match had everything – early wickets, a middle-order recovery, and a dramatic finish. RR looked in control for most of the match. They dismissed dangerous batters like Marsh, Pooran, and Pant early. Even though Markram and Badoni stitched a steady partnership for LSG, the Royals managed to restrict the flow of runs well – until the final over of LSG's innings, where Sandeep Sharma conceded 27 runs, giving LSG crucial momentum.
However, RR came out firing in the chase. Jaiswal and young Vaibhav Suryavanshi gave them a flying start in the powerplay, and it seemed like the game was firmly in RR’s hands. But things turned around towards the end. LSG’s bowlers, especially Avesh Khan, held their nerves and delivered under pressure. Avesh bowled a brilliant final over, defending just 4 runs with pinpoint yorkers and smart bowling.
Avesh Khan was named Player of the Match for his outstanding death bowling. He shared that he thought he had injured his hand and couldn't celebrate initially. His focus on executing yorkers with clarity paid off. He mentioned he doesn't try to copy anyone but wants to be the best version of himself.
Rishabh Pant praised the win, calling it a character-building match. He credited the bowlers for keeping calm in pressure situations, especially Avesh. Pant also talked about the importance of staying clear-minded and trusting the team’s process during tough moments.
For RR, Riyan Parag expressed his disappointment, admitting that the team was in the game till the very end and a few mistakes cost them. He took responsibility for not finishing the match and praised Sandeep despite one poor over.
Shardul Thakur, who took a crucial catch near the end, also shared his thoughts. He emphasized the importance of staying focused and praised both Avesh and Prince for their brilliant spells.
This was LSG’s second win in six matches against RR, and it lifts them to the fourth spot in the points table. For RR, this marks another heartbreaking close defeat – one that will take time to recover from.
